Resist 'Slouching Toward Gomorrah'
Recently, I had an opportunity to help prepare two young women for some upcoming educational opportunities. I was unable to finish giving them all that I had planned so a few days later I sent them an email very similar to the remainer of this article.
I was very happy with most of our discussion recently, except that I was unable to adequately cover some vital aspects of a wise and inspired decision-making process, which I will attempt to rectify now.
The tragic history of students, administrators, and jurists giving in to the ideological left has been illuminated by legal scholar Robert J. Bork, in his outstanding book "Slouching Toward Gomorrah." Rather than staying true to correct precedents and principles, many start leaning left, resulting in destructive decisions. "Slouching Toward Gomorrah" or "Leaning to the Left" feeds the roots that undermine life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
As we are being hounded to turn away from the Light and to "Slouch Toward Gomorrah," we need to resist pride, deception, and corruption, and defend truth, freedom, and justice. To help do those things, and fulfill your potential, consider using the following decision-making process, especially when there are significant and conflicting moral, doctrinal, and legal issues involved:
1. Carefully study the arguments on all sides of the question.
2. Review all the related facts and principles revealed by scriptures and prophets.
3. Review the history and law (secular and church) related to the question.
4. Beware of trusting or siding with liars or evildoers.
5. Carefully consider the results or fruits that will be produced by different choices. Remember, "Ye shall know them by their fruits." (Matthew 7:16)
6. Discuss the question with wise and upright counselors.
7. Seek divine direction about what to believe, decide, and do.
Be wary of those who oppose moral and spiritual decision-making guidelines and who do not hesitate to justify and accommodate destructive ideology.
