Event #231: Veil Torn

⁵¹ And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

Event 231 Notes and Insights

As recorded in Leviticus 16, once a year the high priest was allowed to pass through the veil into the Holy of Holies as part of the sacrificial rites performed in similitude of the coming sacrifice of the Son of God. When Christ was actually sacrificed, as recorded in the New Testament, the Mosaic law was fulfilled, the fulness of the gospel had arrived. To illustrate this in a way all could recognize, the Lord rent the veil of the temple from top to bottom showing that through the atoning blood of Christ, access to God could now be opened to all. In Hebrews chapters nine and ten, Paul explains how passing through the symbolic veil can take one into the presence of God.
